Position Overview

WFMZ is seeking an experienced and passionate Meteorologist to join our award-winning news team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of weather systems, forecasting, and presentation, combined with a flair for storytelling and audience engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver accurate and engaging weather forecasts across multiple platforms, including on-air, online, and social media.
• Monitor and analyze weather data using advanced tools like Doppler radar and forecasting software.
• Provide real-time weather updates during severe weather events, ensuring public safety remains the top priority.
• Collaborate with producers, reporters, and digital teams to integrate weather content into newscasts and web stories.
• Develop creative and visual ways to present complex weather information clearly and effectively.
• Represent WFMZ at community events and build connections with our audience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or a related field.
• AMS and/or NWA Seal of Approval preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of on-air meteorology experience (broadcast or digital).
• Proficiency with industry-standard weather systems (e.g., Baron, WSI, or Weather Central).
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a strong on-camera presence.
• Ability to remain calm and authoritative during high-pressure weather events.
• Strong social media skills and experience with audience engagement.
