Job Summary:

The Alumni Relations Officer will provide alumni engagement and advancement support to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Department of Communication Arts, keeping our alumni and donors informed, connected, and engaged. This position will be responsible for planning and executing a variety of alumni events and initiatives, such as large-scale in-person gatherings, virtual livestreams, small-group networking and board meetings.


A successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • organization, initiative, and effective collaboration with teammates;
  • polished communication skills, a knack for creative problem solving, and the ability to manage time effectively.
Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategy for alumni engagement aligned with advancement goals for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Department of Communication Arts.
  • Execute engagement tactics to achieve unit objectives and track alumni engagement metrics and outcomes.
  • Work closely with unit marketing and communications staff to ensure effective strategy and brand alignment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including alumni, faculty and staff, and vendors.
  • Work closely with Communications Manager and Specialist to develop marketing strategies for alumni programs, organize events, and analyze data to ensure alumni relations goals are being achieved.
  • Manage timelines to ensure successful execution of all aspects of each engagement.
  • Manage registration, marketing, and communication for virtual and in-person engagements, including on-site event management as needed (including some nights/weekends and out-of-state travel), and facilitate the involvement of other staff and volunteers.
  • Plan event marketing strategies to drive attendance and engagement, including email campaigns, social media promotion and targeted outreach to our alumni population.
- Prepare pre- and post-event reports, detailing budget, attendance statistics, suggested improvements, etc.

  • Engage with unit alumni boards, including meeting planning, communications, and recruitment.
  • Work closely with unit leadership and Director of Development on donor relations, prospect identification, and annual giving events such as Day of the Badger, and steward donor generosity on behalf of both departments.
  • Engage with faculty to identify alumni with affinity and facilitate relationship building.

Responsibilities:

Executes marketing strategies for alumni programs, organizes events and analyzes data to ensure alumni relations goals are being achieved.
  • 30% Plans and leads the implementation of major alumni events, volunteer committees, and activities in alignment with strategic initiatives and objectives
  • 30% Plans, directs, and executes alumni visits and discovery calls, passing leads to the appropriate major gift officers to cultivate relationships to assist in achieving established donor goals
  • 30% Serves as a unit liaison for internal and external stakeholders, answers questions, and provides information about established programs based on set material or standards
  • 10% Monitors, organizes, and updates donor records, and implements operating policies and procedures

Education:

Required
Bachelor's Degree
Degree in communications, non-profit management, or related field.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of professional experience.
  • Experience planning, managing and executing events.
  • Experience managing event marketing and communications.
  • Experience communicating and building relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including comfort with public speaking and presentations.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience collaborating on teams working toward a common goal.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Higher education or nonprofit experience.
  • Experience gathering and analyzing data to report impact and inform decision making.
  • Experience in development/fundraising.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $51,955 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary range for this position is $51,955 to $74,296 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurance and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
