Responsibilities may include checking library materials in and out; shelving, unpacking, and distributing materials; registering patrons following established operations; and providing patrons with defined information on library programs and policies, as well as interacting with customers; providing circulation services; providing input into selection of rotating collections; preparing programs and displays; and opening and closing the library. Specifically, as the Library Assistant you will... 1. Assists circulation staff by checking in/out borrowed materials; processing applications, fees, and payments; opening or closing patron accounts; answering and routing phone calls; and issuing library cards. 2. Provides customer service to patrons, including: providing defined information on library programs and policies; referring patrons to appropriate areas within the library; and assisting with utilizing computers, applicable software, locating materials, and placing books on hold. 3. Provides support to assigned program development by selecting materials, preparing materials, and executing the programs. 4. Maintains library materials by shelving, unpacking, repairing, and distributing materials as instructed. 5. Ensures assigned library security by opening and closing facilities. 6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Qualifications ABOUT YOU: A successful candidate will have some or all of the following ... A high school diploma or G.E.D.; 1 to 2 years administrative support or related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Knowledge of: Customer service techniques; Library shelving techniques; Circulation techniques; Mathematical techniques; Applicable library equipment; Data entry techniques; Recordkeeping techniques; Office procedures and equipment; Computers and applicable software applications. Skill in: Providing customer service; Shelving, unpacking, and repairing materials; Processing fees and payments; Checking in and out materials; Performing data entry; Operating computers and applicable software applications; Applying communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Hours of Work/Physical and Mental Demands Hours of Work This is a part-time non-exempt position 24 hours/week. The normal workday shall vary and will include evening and weekend hours.
