Job Classification: Dispatcher
The Trenton Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of Emergency Services Dispatcher (ESD). Entry-level positions will be filled through testing with the National Testing Network (NTN). Candidates must complete the ECOMM National Exam and submit a completed application packet. Experienced candidates with at least one year of full-time ESD experience are eligible to apply as lateral entry candidates and do not need to take the NTN test. Lateral entry candidates must submit a résumé with their application packet.
Application packets are available at the Trenton Police Department website and from the City of Trenton Administrative offices. Packets must be submitted by 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, 2024, to be considered. Completed packets can be mailed or delivered in person to 11 E. State St, Trenton, OH 45067, Attention: Sharon Leichman. All testing must be completed, and application packets must be received by the deadline to be considered.
Salary Information:
Full-Time: $51,937 - $62,004 annually, with a top-out salary of $65,998 in January 2025. A signing bonus may be negotiable for well-qualified, experienced candidates.
Part-Time: $18.00 - $24.09 per hour.

Department Overview:
The City of Trenton Communications Center dispatches emergency responders for police, fire, and EMS services. It also serves as the after-hours contact point for all City departments.
Area Information:
Trenton covers over 5 square miles in Butler County, Ohio, located between Middletown and Hamilton on State Route 73. It is approximately 20 minutes from Miami University's Oxford campus.

Hiring Process:
Entry-Level Candidates: Must pass the NTN ECOMM National Exam.

All Candidates: Must complete an oral review panel, drug and alcohol screening, background investigation, and medical and psychological exams.

Job Description - Emergency Services Dispatcher:
Serves as the initial contact for citizens at the police station.
Manages radio communications, dispatching police, fire, and life squad units, coordinating backup support as needed.
Receives emergency and non-emergency calls, recording relevant information accurately.
Maintains records, logs, and computer entries.
Operates various office equipment related to dispatching duties.
Conducts queries and manages entries in local, state, and national databases.
Prepares and maintains LEADS/NCIC entries and certifications.
Monitors persons in holding cells and maintains related reports.
Handles financial transactions for bonds, impounds, and records.
Notarizes documents as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Licensure or Certification Requirements:
LEADS and CCH certification must be obtained within three months.
State of Ohio Notary certification required within six months.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work independently, managing dispatch functions while on duty.
Proficiency in multitasking under pressure, including life-and-death situations.
Knowledge of or ability to learn FCC regulations, LEADS/NCIC systems, public safety dispatching procedures, and local protocols.
Ability to operate communication systems and office equipment.
Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Strong decision-making abilities and problem-solving skills.
Basic computer literacy, including word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage.
Must pass ongoing random drug and alcohol testing.
Physical/Mental Abilities and Work Environment:
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment, with flexibility to sit or stand as needed. Requires 24/7 availability, including shifts that may exceed 40 hours as required.
Physical Requirements:
