Description

The Director of Production serves as the Video Production Team lead and principal developer of digital video and multimedia content for Alaska Public Media (AKPM). Responsibilities include oversight of the AKPM television studio, production master control, editing software, field production equipment, video graphic art design and implementation, production of promotional/informational spots, and managing technical aspects of live and/or live to digital file television studio production.

Alaska Public Media (AKPM) is a broad-based public media organization that delivers television, radio, and web content. AKPM is the source of PBS television, NPR radio, and stewards the statewide AKPM News network.

Essential Functions:

• Oversee and manage the video production of AKPM original content.
• Supervise Video Production Team
• Manage all on-air branding and video marketing materials in coordination with the Chief
• Content Officer, Chief Development Officer, and Brand Manager.
• Managing Producer for Indie Alaska and main liaison with PBS Digital Studios.
• Managing Producer for AKPM content projects i.e. workforce development initiative.
• Manage and delegate Production Requests from other AKPM Departments. This includes but not limited to corporate support, proof of performance videos, event promotion, field shoots, and edits.
• Manage and cultivate creative services contracts with organizations and vendors for production and editing services using the AKPM Rate Card
• Serve as videographer and editor for AKPM original content and other special projects as required or assigned.
• Develop and/or supervise creative multimedia/video content for AKPM website, YouTube channels, AKPM social media platforms, PBS Digital Products, and on-air AKPM branding elements and other special projects in coordination with the Chief Content Officer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In addition to the above functions, the Director of Production will:

• Perform field production both independently and with support staff.
• Participate and/or direct crew in live and recorded studio and field productions.
• Edit and maintain AKPM video web pages, the AKPM and Indie Alaska YouTube channels, and social platforms.
• Upload and manage all local AKPM video content on designated distribution platforms including sIX, Media Manager, YouTube, and other PBS digital platforms.
• Coordinate and support all production phases when coordinating with programming, production, and news teams.
• Create a high-level customer service focused culture when interfacing with on-camera talent and featured guests.
• Gather and post material for supplemental content that enhances all web video.
• Assist in promoting the AKPM content and initiatives

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in television production, multi-media production or related field.
• Five (5) years’ experience in non-linear video production environment specifically using Adobe Creative Suite.
• Three (3) years in a managerial role that includes supervising, training, and mentoring staff.
• Demonstrate proficiency in field videography and operation of most field video cameras, recorders, sound and lighting equipment.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons from diverse educational, economical, and cultural background, as well as persons with differing physical abilities.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with people at all levels under stressful conditions.
• Be able to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends as required to meet project timelines.
• Maintains confidentiality and sensitivity.
• Must be able to concentrate on details and process complex information while experiencing frequent interruptions and deadline pressures.
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License.

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficient use of Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and After Effects.
• Proficient use of industry standard multimedia and media streaming software.
• Experience using Canon camera equipment.
• Experience in script writing, and/or producing.
• Experience managing business social media accounts including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X, and TikTok
• Proficient computer operation to including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.), Google Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides etc) and Internet browser.
• Comfortable navigating new software and app tools as they introduced and implemented into everyday workflow (Monday.com, Slack, Trello, etc)

• Proficient at computer use to include office software products, custom software packages, internet and e-mail.

• Must exercise good judgement for the prompt completion of responsibilities.

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit; use hands to handle or feet; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

The work environment characteristics described here are typical of a television/radio broadcast office environment and representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
