Position Overview:
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) - Practicing Physician will play a vital role in overseeing medical operations and strategy while also providing direct patient care and clinical duties. This position reports to both the Chief Executive Officer in their capacity as CMO and the Board of Directors for clinical responsibilities. This dual reporting structure requires strong time management, communication, and prioritization skills to effectively balance administrative duties with patient care obligations.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Chief Medical Officer (CMO):
Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the organization's mission and goals.
Identify opportunities for growth and innovation in healthcare delivery, recommending strategies for improvement.
Provide medical expertise and guidance in creating programs and initiatives that address health needs within the LGBTQ+ community.
Oversee medical staff, ensuring compliance with clinical protocols, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.
Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment by providing leadership and mentorship to medical staff.
Conduct performance evaluations, offering constructive feedback and identifying opportunities for professional development.
Develop and enforce policies related to medical practices, protocols, and procedures.
Collaborate with executive leadership, board members, and external stakeholders to represent medical perspectives and interests.
Manage the budget and resources allocated to medical operations.
Identify and mitigate potential risks related to medical operations and patient care.
Practicing Physician:
Provide direct patient care by diagnosing illnesses, prescribing treatments, and managing health in accordance with quality standards and practice protocols.
Build rapport with patients by addressing their concerns and ensuring they understand treatment plans.
Accurately and timely document patient encounters, ensuring compliance with medical record-keeping standards.
Stay informed about the latest medical research, treatments, and technologies through ongoing education and training.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as specialists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Comply with all organizational policies, standards, and procedures.
Job Requirements & Qualifications:
Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
Board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., infectious disease, internal medicine, family medicine, etc.).
Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in Texas.
Proven experience in clinical leadership roles, preferably in a non-profit or community health setting.
Understanding of healthcare administration, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement methodologies.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
Commitment to the organization's mission and values.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and make sound decisions.
Capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment and build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Understanding of community health issues and healthcare delivery systems.
