Job Description

Our client provides innovative and custom formulated chemical solutions to various industries including automotive, packaging and textiles.

Summary:

The Chemical Plant Engineer will be responsible for developing new or modifying existing industrial processes and recommending new process equipment or modifications to existing ones. They will be responsible for process design, operation through to implementation. The successful candidate will be able to improve industrial processes in order to increase efficiency, reduce cost, improve sustainability and maximize profitability.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience with management and implementation of capital equipment projects from procurement through installation and maintenance as well as a solid understanding of polymer synthesis and processing.

Tasks:

· Be the primary driver of day-to-day Manufacturing Excellence and to develop, plan and implement needed changes and improvements in organization, procedures, equipment, processes and facilities to achieve manufacturing goals and continuous improvement.

· Maintain manufacturing efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs by effectively reviewing and directing the activities in the areas of safety, production, product quality, planning and scheduling and maintenance.

· Use and develop process simulation software to work out the best production methods and investigate/ troubleshoot plant/process problems.

· Assess and ensure safe working conditions and compliance with health and safety legislation.

· Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output

· Perform process simulations and risk assessments.

· Manage cost and time constraints.

· Provide process documentation and operating instructions.

· Develop / Review / Maintain equipment specifications related to purchasing, installation, operation, performance, and maintenance / repairs.

· Develop and maintain reliability improvement / tracking programs for critical assets. Resolve equipment problems, investigate incidents, and improve reliability.

· Manage and implement multiple capital projects, permits, and perform engineering functions in a plant production environment. Ensure that equipment works to its specification and to appropriate capacities.

· Purchase and install any new equipment.

· Supervise and direct the maintenance department.

· Perform root-cause failure analysis on critical equipment and component failures as required.

· Liaise with project engineers, vendors and specialists during repair to critical equipment and performance testing of new equipment as needed.

Requirements:

· BS Degree in Engineering, Chemical preferred

· Hands-on experience in a Chemical Plant environment

· Experience in polymer synthesis and processing essential

· Knowledge of process related standards

· Experience in process simulations

· Familiarity with health and safety regulations

· Analytical thinker with interpersonal skills

· Demonstrated leadership skills and cultural change agent.

· Continuously working to contribute and improve overall Plant’s performance (effectiveness and efficiency) through Key Performance Indicators and effective coaching, mentoring, and training.

· Understanding of ISO 9001 standards

· Strong change management skills and experience with all levels of the organization, to influence and get buy-in while maintaining relationships

· Strong verbal, written, analytical, and presentation skills

· Individuals must have in-depth knowledge of plant equipment function, maintenance, technology as well as an appreciation of engineering issues.

· Demonstrated knowledge of operating and technical disciplines such as Process Safety Management and technical documentation.

· Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects.

· Ability to work well under pressure
